Video Sidesteps the Dangers of Decreasing Attention Spans

multitasking business womanThe amount of time the average person is able to pay attention to a particular task has dropped significantly. The causes are many, but the danger this trend represents is simple: your prospects and customers are finding it more and more difficult to absorb important information about your product.

There are several causes of decreased attention span, and all are the results of modern life: multi-tasking, stress, TV and video games, alcohol & drug consumption, lack of sleep, depression and mental illness - the list goes on and on.

Here are some frightening statistics:

  • Workers distracted by phones and emails had a 10 pt drop in their IQ, compared to a 4 pt drop from marijuana use (BBC News)
  • 40 percent of US workers reported their jobs to be very or extremely stressful (cdc.gov)
  • The risk of attention deficit doubles with TV is watched or video games are played more than 2 hours per day ( University of Iowa)
  • 12.9 percent of purchasing agents and buyers, and 5.6 percent of executive managers reported current illicit drug use (U.S. Office of Applied Studies)

Given the sea of attention deficit you and your company are now swimming in, how can you make sure your message is being absorbed and retained?

This is why video is so important.

Video engages shorter attention spans and enhances information absorption and retention. It facilitates learning - the kind of learning that must take place if your prospects are going to understand why they should buy from you.

Think video is a nice-to-have? Think again.
